Come join us every Saturday from 8am-noon on N. River Street.

Each week, you'll find 50+ local vendors selling locally raised meats, an assortment of fresh greens and produce, gourmet mushrooms, handmade pasta, eggs, homemade baked goods, soups, hot sauces, and more each week. Our vendors must grow, harvest and/or produce at least 75% of market products.

Wednesday Evening Farmers' Market - BACK FOR A THIRD YEAR!

WHEN: Select Wednesdays: June 10, 17, 24, July 1, 15, 22, 29, August 5 

TIME: 5:00-8:00pm

WHERE: The South Riverwalk Plaza (N. Island Ave and Houston St) in front of City Hall alongside the Batavia Park District's River Rhapsody Concert Series.

PARKING: Park in the public lot off N. River Street between State & Spring Streets & walk across the Peace Bridge.

 

The Market features produce, baked goods, plants, honey and related farm products. Our vendors must grow, harvest and/or produce at least 75% of market products.

The outdoor Farmers’ Market will once again feature the Artisan Collective on the 3rd Saturday of each month where you can enjoy living and shopping locally. Shop for handmade items from your favorite artists, makers, and designers.  We are still accepting applications for the 2026 Artisan Collective!  Apply HERE.

The Wednesday evening Batavia Farmers’ Market is held in conjunction with the Batavia Park District's River Rhapsody Concert series.  No additional musicians are needed at this market.

Well-behaved, leashed pets are allowed at the Farmers' Market.    

 

Freedom of Speech

During construction of the Peace Bridge Ramp Project, the Free Speech Zone is located on the west side of the Fox River in the plaza in front of City Hall.  Speakers may not interfere with customers entering and exiting the market.  Megaphones or other amplification devices are not allowed.  Threats, intimidation, obscenity, and advertising or promoting illegal products or services are not allowed.

The mission of the Batavia Farmers’ Market, and its sponsor Batavia MainStreet, is to enrich our small-town community values, stimulate our local economy at a grassroots level, and educate residents and those in our extended community of the value of wholesome, hand-crafted and nutritionally valuable food. Additionally, our interest is to support locally produced non-food products including but not limited to plants, fiber, and products derived of animal products (i.e. soaps, textiles, etc.). Our goal encompasses the notion of creating a community-driven social destination as an educational, recreational and healthy resource.

The purpose of the Batavia Farmers’ Market is to provide a retail outlet for local producers; fresh, local products for consumers; and a gathering place that encourages a sense of community. This Market features produce, baked goods, artisan products, plants, honey and related farm products. Our vendors must grow, harvest and/or produce at least 75% of market products.



The following types of vendors are allowed at the market

Farm - Produce - Including: raw vegetables and fruits, cut, washed and unwashed bagged vegetables, mushrooms, edible plants, garlic, grains, and herbs.

At least 75% of products sold must be grown or produced by the vendor. Farm vendors must be an active owner/operator of the farming operation and may not be operating the business under a franchise agreement or as a wholesaler. "Vendor" shall be defined as the farmer of produce sold and shall include the immediate family and employees of the applicant who assist in the cultivation of the same property listed in the application under the "name of the farm facility." Produce grown or produced at a location not listed on the application is not eligible to be sold.

Farm - Meat, Cheese, Egg, Fish - Including: raw and frozen meats (beef, lamb, mutton, pork, goat); raw and frozen poultry; raw and frozen game bird and rabbit; raw and frozen fish; fluid milk, fresh dairy products, eggs, cheese, cured meat and sausage.

At least 75% of products sold must be grown or produced by the vendor. Farm vendors must be an active owner/operator of the farming operation and may not be operating the business under a franchise agreement or as a wholesaler. Vendors selling non-food plants may act as wholesalers provided, they grow their product locally, work as both a wholesaler and local seller, and submit to visits to their facilities. "Vendor" shall be defined as the farmer of produce sold and shall include the immediate family and employees of the applicant who assist in the cultivation of the same property listed in the application under the "name of the farm facility." Produce grown or produced at a location not listed on the application is not eligible to be sold.

Processed Foods - Including: baked goods (breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, pies), chocolates, fresh pasta, preserves, fruit syrups, jellies, jams, herbal or vegetable spreads, pickles or herbal vinegars, herb or spice blends, juice, cider, and apiary products (honey).

At least 75% of the products sold must be prepared, produced, or processed by the vendor. Vendor must be an active owner/operator, which includes immediate family and employees of the applicant.

Prepared Foods - Ready-to-eat or drink items such as: snacks, meals, non-alcoholic beverages, ice cream, soups, sandwiches, and treats.

Additional Policies and Information

Vendor Acceptance

Space is extremely limited with priority given to past vendors. Notification of acceptance will be made starting on October 9, 2023. You will be invoiced at this time. Payment is due upon approval and is non-refundable.

Attendance: Vendors not able to participate on a given week(s) must contact the Market Coordinator at least 24 hours prior to the market. A $25 fine per vacant space may be assessed for no shows who do not give notification at the discretion of the Market Coordinator, Committee, or Executive Director.

Pricing & Labeling: Scales and other weighing/measuring devices must be registered as legal for trade in the State of Illinois. Prices for items must be clearly posted, either on the item, individually or at a location near the product. The Illinois State Sales Tax number must be displayed prominently in any Market stall from which goods are sold. Vendors are to display signage with the name and location of their operation. Farm Vendors are encouraged to display the type of growing practices that were used in their food production i.e. IPM, Certified Organic, pesticide free, etc. Processed and Prepared Food Vendors are encouraged to display properties of their products i.e. organic, gluten-free, vegetarian, etc. Any processed product must have packaging and labeling that conforms to the Kane County and State of Illinois Public Health and Marketing standards.

Necessary Documents and Permits: Vendors are required to submit with their application any required proof of insurance, health department permits and/or licenses, Farm and Production plan and Declaration of Products for sale. Prepared and Processed Food Vendors are subject to all Kane County Health department regulations and must comply with said regulations. It is the responsibility of the Owner/Producer/Manager of the respective vendor to produce appropriate permits/health license at the request of a Kane County or State of Illinois Official. Failure to produce required documentation upon request will be cause for immediate expulsion from the Market until proper documentation is produced. Each vendor is responsible for securing the appropriate permits/health licenses to sell said processed foods. Homemade baked goods and homemade food, such as honey, will be accepted under the conditions that goods are made, or packaged/bottled by the Vendor’s immediate family. Sampling of any item by the Vendor to the public is strictly prohibited without proper permit from Kane County Health Department.

Production Site: Vendors must post their production-site locations. The Market reserves the right to visit the locations of growers/producers to confirm that the products brought to the market are their own.

Grievance Policy: All disputes of any nature shall be agreed upon by all parties to be settled at the discretion of the Market Coordinator, Market Managers, Committee, and/or Executive Director. Any altercation, be it verbal, physical or otherwise, will not be tolerated and may be cause for immediate expulsion from the Market that day and may further result in permanent expulsion from the Market. Any further disciplinary action will be determined by the Market Coordinator, Market Managers, Committee and/or the Executive Director of Batavia MainStreet. Occupant of space at this Market must conform to the Market rules at all times. The Market Managers have full authority to enforce all rules. Any occupant failing to comply there within will have their space declared vacant at the discretion of the Market Managers and no refunds will be given. It is the mission of the Batavia Farmers’ Market to provide a service in the best interest of the community. The Market Managers is empowered to enforce the regulations and make discretionary judgments to that end, and in the best interest of the Market.
