A Woodturning Fundraiser for Local Food Pantries
The Chicago Woodturners and the Windy City Woodturners invite everyone to join them
on October 12, 2024, at the Boardwalk Shops of Batavia, located at the intersection of Wilson
St. and IL Rt. 25 in beautiful downtown Batavia. Volunteer members of both woodturning clubs
will be selling donated bowls and other wood turned items in this outdoor pop-up market to
raise funds for the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry and the Fox
Valley Food for Health organizations. The fundraiser begins at 9:00 AM and will go until 4:00
pm or until the bowls and other hand-made items are sold out. Shoppers should arrive early
for best selection.
The pop-up shop will feature wooden, hand-crafted, one of a kind items produced by
local artisans. Each item would make a beautiful holiday gift for your friends or family
members, or perhaps you might find that ‘something perfect’ for your home décor.
The Batavia Boardwalk Shop owners are also participating in the Empty Bowls event by
collecting canned goods and other food pantry staples. All customers who bring food pantry
items to the fundraiser or make a purchase at any of the Boardwalk Shops on October 12th, will
be eligible to win a gift basket filled with items donated by the Boardwalk Shops.
The Chicago Woodturners and the Windy City Woodturners are Chapters of the
American Association of Woodturners. These clubs are dedicated to woodturning education
and can often be seen at local schools and civic events. Both clubs regularly participate in civic
outreach activities including Empty Bowls for Food, Pens for Troops, Beads of Courage boxes
and the WIT Wig Stand Initiative, each of which benefit local non-profit agencies.
