Each year, our Boardwalk Shops Committee carefully reviews every application, conducts interviews, and participates in a jury process to ensure a strong, well-rounded lineup. This isn’t a quick decision—it’s an intentional process designed to support shop owners and enhance the downtown business district.

Product Diversity
We aim to create a dynamic mix of offerings for visitors. Each business is considered for how it complements—or competes with—existing Downtown Batavia shops. The goal is to enhance the overall shopping experience while supporting the entire local business ecosystem in the Tri-Cities and surrounding Western Suburbs.

Business Readiness
Is the business prepared for a retail environment? We evaluate inventory, pricing, branding, and overall preparedness to ensure each shop is set up for success.

Boardwalk Compatibility
With unique limitations, like no running water, we carefully assess whether a business’s products and operations work in the space—one reason some food concepts may not be the right fit.

Professionalism
Communication, organization, and presentation matter. We look for applicants who demonstrate professionalism and a strong commitment to growing their business.
